An electric arc furnace is a type of electric furnace that utilizes electrode arcs to generate high temperatures for smelting ores and metals, making it ideal for producing high-quality alloy steel. As the service time of an electric arc furnace increases, certain vulnerable components require replacement at various intervals. The primary components that typically need replacing include the copper electrode, copper wire mesh, and quartz tube. Here's a guide on how to replace these parts effectively.
To replace the copper electrode, start by removing the tee fitting located on the upper surface of the electric arc furnace by turning it counterclockwise. Once removed, take out the old electrode rod and insert the new one in its place. Finally, reattach the tee fitting by screwing it back on clockwise.
The copper wire mesh is situated at the upper inner side of the furnace body, serving to prevent a portion of the dust from entering the dust collector through the air outlet pipe and to minimize excessive heat loss. Over time, the copper wire mesh will need replacement. The procedure is as follows:
First, use a thin rod to remove any remaining copper wire fragments. Next, unfold the new copper wire mesh and position it over the quartz tube, which has a small hole in the middle. Carefully cover the quartz tube from bottom to top with the mesh. Then, take a small section of hard wire or iron wire and shape it into a small ring with a handle. Use this ring to hold the copper wire mesh in place up to the top of the quartz tube.
The quartz tube is susceptible to aging after prolonged use, and its end may become damaged or break when the crucible enters or exits. Such fractures can affect the accuracy of tests, necessitating replacement. The steps for replacement are as follows:
Begin by unscrewing the tee pipe. Secure the furnace body joint with a vice (preferably lined with cloth to prevent damage) and then unscrew it counterclockwise. Once unscrewed, remove the old quartz tube along with the small silicone rubber ring inside. If the silicone rubber ring is severely aged, it should also be replaced.
Next, place the new small silicone rubber ring flat into the upper part of the furnace body. Insert the new quartz tube into the furnace body from top to bottom until the lower end of the quartz tube is level with the end face of the furnace body. Finally, reattach the furnace body joint and tee tube, ensuring everything is securely fastened.
By following these detailed steps, you can efficiently replace the worn components in your electric arc furnace, ensuring its continued optimal performance and longevity.
